Hygrophorus helobius (Arnolds) Bon Cap 1-3cm across, flattish with the center often depressed and the margin sometimes wavy in age; scarlet paling to more orange; finely scaly. Gills deeply adnate to shortly decurrent; yellowish to light orange. Stem 15-30 x 2-4mm, hollow; orange to slightly reddish; dry. Spores ellipsoid with a central waist, 8-12.5 x 4-6µ. Deposit white. Habitat in mossy woods. Rare. Found in New Jersey. Season August-September. Edibility not known.
